New Grid Generation Software Speeds Under Hood Simulation

Grid Generation When starting a real life under hood flow simulation you have to deal with real life data. As you all know you can win or lose the game with CAD data handling and meshing.

For data reduction, file conversion and meshing, MAGNA STEYR uses the very new and, from MAGNA’s point of view, brilliant tool Spider. Spider is one of the first meshers which works fully automatically and is massively parallel.

MAGNA STEYR uses AVL-SWIFT for the flow simulation and we couple the radiator to the 1D cooling system tool KULI.

A full engine compartment flow simulation including external aerodynamics took five to seven weeks in 2003, today, thanks to Spider, we are able to perform these kind of simulations within one to two weeks.
