Cobalt V7.0 introduces a new Overset module which provides improved hole-cuts and improved efficiency. The hole-cut interface is calculated to lie midway between non-cuttable boundaries of overset grids. The result is a very smooth hole-cut -- whether it is a full scale aircraft with tiny gaps in control surfaces or an aircraft with multiple weapons cluster in a weapons release simulation. The implementation of the module follows the same guidelines as found in the flow solver Cobalt – robust, accurate, and user-friendly.
Examples of a weapons drop, wing/aileron/flap movement, and missile fin extension can be found on our website.
The output of flow visualization data has been sped-up. Depending on how many flow variables requested, a speed-up of 2x has been seen in average cases. This can be a valuable time-saver if outputting at a regular interval in a time-accurate job.
Three turbulence models have been added: Hellsten’s EARSM (Explicit Algebraic Reynolds Stress Model) and EARSM-CC, and Menter’s SST-SAS model. This brings the total number of turbulence models in Cobalt to 16. The complete list and references can be found in the User's Manual.
A 30-day demo Cobalt license and Overset license is available for users to test the new feature for their individual applications. The Overset module requires a separate license in addition to the Cobalt license. Information requests can be sent to contact@cobaltcfd.com.
About Cobalt Solutions, LLC
Cobalt Solutions, LLC delivers advanced Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis capabilities for both commercial and military applications. Cobalt Solutions, LLC develops fluid dynamics software designed to keep the burden on the user as low as possible, enabling rapid turn-around of difficult problems. To this end, our flow solver, Cobalt, uses unstructured grids to enable rapid grid generation around complex geometries. The Overset capability provides for simulation of bodies in relative motion. Parallel processing demonstrated on as many as 21,000 processors with linear speedup provides rapid turnaround. The simple and intuitive graphical user interface programs Ligase and Blacksmith complement Cobalt with job file creation and grid manipulation capabilities.
