News The Vincent Lab in the Department of Aeronautics at Imperial College London announces Release 1.0 of PyFR CFD software, an open-source Python based framework for solving advection-diffusion type problems using the Flux Reconstruction (FR) approach.

PyFR was developed for a range of system hardware including GPU-based architectures as described in a blog from NVIDIA about How GPU Technology is Transforming Flow Simulation.

A recent article published by Imperial College describes various applications of PyFR 1.0.0, and how the framework is designed to solve a range of governing systems on mixed unstructured grids containing various element types. The current release PyFR v1.0.0 provides the following capabilities:

  • Governing Equations - Euler, Navier Stokes
  • Dimensionality - 2D, 3D
  • Element Types - Triangles, Quadrilaterals, Hexahedra, Prisms, Tetrahedra, Pyramids
  • Platforms - CPU Clusters, Nvidia GPU Clusters, AMD GPU Clusters
  • Spatial Discretisation - High-Order Flux Reconstruction
  • Temporal Discretisation - Explicit Runge-Kutta
  • Precision - Single, Double
  • Mesh Files Imported - Gmsh (.msh)
  • Solution Files Exported - Unstructured VTK (.vtu, .pvtu)

PyFR is available for download at www.pyfr.org, where more details are provided about the development team at Imperial College.
