Uncertainty Quantification Tool Now Implemented in NUMECA Software Environment

News CFD simulations are currently run with a unique set of input data such as boundary conditions, physical models or geometry parameters. Realistic operating conditions of industrial products are however subject to operational and geometrical uncertainties. These uncertainties are a major source of risk in the design decision process.

Thanks to NUMECA’s Uncertainty Quantification (UQ) module, designers now have the capability to easily quantify the effect of input parameters' uncertainty on CFD results.

Through an intuitive interface, the UQ module allows users to set input parameters' uncertainties prescribed by arbitrary PDFs, combine them and analyze their effect on the predictions.

The method retained in FINE™ is a non-intrusive probabilistic collocation method, combined with a sparse grid method allowing an important reduction in the number of deterministic simulations to be run, and a significant reduction in the computation time of the non-deterministic solution.

Furthermore, the UQ method developed by NUMECA allows the combination of operational and geometrical uncertainties in an integrated design and simulation environment. The modification of the parameterized geometry, remeshing and simulation set-up is entirely automatic.
