News CD-adapco and Access are pleased to announce an exciting new version of STAR-Cast, their jointly developed software solution for all industrial casting simulation.

Developed in collaboration between a world leading provider of CAE technology and recognized international experts in casting and metallurgy, STAR-Cast V1.08 brings unrivalled ease-of-use and automation to the simulation of casting processes and introduces a new level of multi-disciplinary sophistication to simulation results.

STAR-Cast provides a comprehensive and intuitive process for performing multiphase casting simulation - liquid, solid and gaseous – including conjugate heat transfer, a sharp resolution of the filling front, free-surface fragmentation, motion of trapped gas bubbles in melt, natural convection in melt and gas.

STAR-Cast V1.08 adds simulation of the investment casting processes, including shell mold generation, radiation within the mold and the cast, movement of mold and cavity into a Bridgman furnace.

New physics models have been implemented, for instance water evaporation in sand, and also a number of additional post-processing engineering criteria for easing the analyses and understanding of the results.

"STAR-Cast V1.08 is a truly innovative solution for anyone involved in industrial casting," says Jean Claude Ercolanelli, Sr. Vice President Product Management at CD-adapco. "However, innovation by itself is not enough. We've listened to our customers and delivered a product that is intuitive to use, that speaks the language of casting engineers and uniquely addresses the challenges faced by this industry."

“STAR-Cast V1.08 combines the leading technology for casting processes simulation with great ease of use in meshing and model definition,” says Jürgen Jakumeit, Head of STAR-Cast development at Access.

STAR-Cast is an engineering simulation solution for a broad range of casting processes:

  • Gravity Sand Casting
  • Gravity (tilting) Die Casting
  • Low pressure and Counter Pressure Casting
  • Centrifugal Casting
  • Investment Casting

For complete information on all new features in STAR-Cast V1.08 or to download it today please visit CD-adapco's user services site or contact your local office.
