News NIKA GmbH, the leading provider of fluid flow and heat transfer simulation software for engineers and a new PTC Partner Advantage™ Gold Partner, has announced the new analysis package EFD.Pro.

EFD.Pro is a fully integrated fluid flow and heat transfer simulation product for Pro/ENGINEER. The seamless interface enables users to create designs with Pro/ENGINEER and then immediately analyze and optimize them – without translating any data and within the familiar Pro/ENGINEER environment. The tight integration between the products combined with the associative nature of Pro/ENGINEER makes it easy to use the analytical results to quickly iterate and optimize the design.

Aside from offering knowledge-based automated processes such as automatic meshing, automatic detection of the fluid region and automatic laminar-turbulent modelling, it features powerful analysis of simultaneous flows of gases and liquids, heat transfer and forces on immersed or surrounding solids. It can be used for the development and optimization of various products such as automotive parts, computer housings, switching units, electronic devices, HVAC systems, valves and regulators, medical equipment, in addition to the building and fire protection industries within a shorter time frame and with better quality.

“We welcome NIKA as a valuable addition to PTC’s Partner Advantage Program,” stated Dr. Carsten Hochmuth, director of software and technology partner programs, PTC. “Fluid flow and heat transfer analysis programs have increasingly become an essential part of the product development processes employed by our customers. With the help of partners such as NIKA, we are able to provide a wide range of comprehensive and tightly integrated capabilities in this area”.

“EFD.Pro is our latest product to provide seamless integration between a leading design program and our ground-breaking analysis technology,” added Roland Feldhinkel, managing director of NIKA. “With the availability of EFD.Pro, we now have broken the barriers to implementing a streamlined product development process within the popular Pro/ENGINEER environment.”

EFD.Pro Overview

EFD.Pro is based on the principles of Engineering Fluid Dynamics (EFD). EFD is the advanced approach for creating fluid flow and heat transfer analysis software that takes away the complexity of numerical/mathematical schemes from the user, while relying on the same mathematical and physical foundation as traditional Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) programs. Featuring a seamless integration with Pro/ENGINEER, EFD.Pro uses the original Pro/ENGINEER parts and assemblies without requiring the user to model the flow domain separately. The graphical pre-processor guides the user step-by-step through the physical data definition process using the Pro/ENGINEER model.

A fully automatic, multi-adaptive mesh generator based on NIKA’s RAM technology generates high-quality computational grids. The mesh generator and NIKA’s robust convergence control mechanism, ACC, serve as the basis for highly efficient fluid flow simulations.

EFD.Pro offers analysis capabilities such as compressible and incompressible liquids and gases, laminar and turbulent flows, heat transfer and species transport for steady-state and transient flow regimes as well as numerous other sophisticated physical models. A graphical postprocessor is also fully integrated and offers comprehensive results visualization and valuation capabilities with tight connectivity to MS Excel and MS Word using the original Pro/ENGINEER model.

EFD.Pro will be showcased in booth number 418 at the PTC User World Event 2005 from June 5 through 8th, 2005, in Orlando, Florida.
