Blue Ridge Numerics Announces Release of CFdesign v6.0

News Blue Ridge Numerics Inc. announces the release of CFdesign® v6.0 software for fluid flow and heat transfer simulation. CFdesign v6.0 focuses on rapid product optimization with new capabilities to enable mainstream product development engineers working on tight deadlines to simulate multiple (10, 20, even 100) design scenarios simultaneously and then interactively visualize, compare, and share simulation results throughout the process.

The speed in which CFdesign uses native MCAD models to analyze and qualitatively compare design variations is what sets CFdesign apart from traditional CFD applications. On average, implementing CFdesign can reduce the time it takes to develop, test, and prove a new product design by 70% while also reducing the costs associated with staff time and materials by 65%.

“A little more than twelve months ago CFdesign made it possible to use complex 3D MCAD part and assembly models for fluid flow and heat transfer simulation. As result, our customers found they could set-up a simulation up to 90% faster than working with the traditional CFD tools on the market,” stated Blue Ridge Numerics president, Ed Williams. “CFdesign v6.0 takes another giant step forward by opening the door to unlimited what-if studies without penalty to the project schedule or an engineer’s personal workload. Additionally, our new Design Review and Design Communication Centers provide engineering groups with amazing tools to qualitatively compare and interactively share simulations results. The entire Blue Ridge Numerics team is very proud of the innovation contained in this major release.”

New Features in CFdesign v6.0 include:
MCAD Associativity
CFdesign v6.0 uses native 3D component & assembly models and maintains associative/parametric relationship with the following MCAD systems:
  • Autodesk Inventor
  • Pro/ENGINEER
  • Solid Edge
  • SolidWorks
  • Unigraphics
  • Fully supports other MCAD systems using ACIS or Parasolid modeling kernel
Fast Track Option
  • Enables users to put idle CPUs to work so they can perform multiple ‘what if’ design iterations in the time it takes to do a single one.
  • Provides additional CFdesign simulation capability on-demand at affordable monthly rates to keep projects on the fast track.
  • Allows groups to scale up simulation capabilities for high priority projects without the budget and capital acquisition hassles. Ideal way to maximize group-computing resources.
Design Review Center
  • Provides a dynamic visualization environment in which engineering decision-makers can evaluate multiple designs.
  • Enables users to clearly see the relationship between design changes and product performance so design decisions can be made with confidence.
Design Communication Center
  • Share simulation results with supply chain partners. Others can view, rotate, zoom, and pan simulation projects anytime and anywhere.
  • Include comments and annotations along with simulation results using PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, or a Web browser.
  • CFdesign’s new 3D Viewer allows users share expertise, solicit feedback, and secure design approval.
Structural CAE Integration
  • Offers interoperability with Abaqus, ANSYS, Mechanica, and Nastran.
  • Simulation results are automatically prepared as an “input deck” that can be used by leading structural analysis software to calculate flow and thermal-induced stress and other important engineering concerns.
Next Generation User Interface
  • Enables engineers to manage their simulation project just like they manage an assembly model in their MCAD system.
  • Create a simple, manageable workflow using a new Feature tree, dialog stack, and dockable windows.

CFdesign v6.0 will be commercially available in December, 2002. For pricing information, contact Kevin O’Shea at 434-977-2764 or send an email to sales@cfdesign.com.
