Downhole Dynamics
9:00 AM – 1:30 PM, including lunch
Drilling and development of wellbores for optimal petrochemical production are highly challenging engineering activities. The seminar will explore how Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) simulation of flow, thermal, and stress/vibration performance in these situations can provide significant advantage in overcoming development challenges in many areas, such as
- improved drill bit casting for reduction of residual stresses
- understanding the details of 3-D drilling mud flow during the drilling process
- development of better downhole tools
- designing sand screens and perforation devices
- understanding general 3-D multiphase flow dynamics in the downhole environment
Petrochemical Plant and Equipment Improvement
Noon-4:30 PM, including lunch
Design and modification of plant systems and equipment to improve performance and extend useful operating life are highly challenging engineering activities. This seminar will show how simulation of flow, thermal, and stress/vibration performance in these systems can provide significant advantage in overcoming development challenges such as
- furnace combustion behavior for effectiveness and extension of operating life
- design of heat exchangers, pumps, and valves
- understanding and improving delayed coking
processes
