Air Velocity in Electronics Design

Announcements Advanced Thermal Solutions, Inc. (ATS) will present a free thermal management webinar for all engineers, designers and program managers interested in learning about air velocity measurement, the tools to measure it and how best to record it.

Air Velocity Measurement in Electronics Design will be presented live over the Web on Wednesday, July 30, 2008 starting at 2:00 p.m. ET. The tutorial is free, but pre-registration is required.

Why are velocity and other air flow characteristics important? All devices in an air-cooled system must be kept within their operating temperature limits, i.e., inside their maximum allowable device junction temperature. While device manufacturers provide these specs for the user to perform thermal analyses, along with such data as power dissipation and package thermal characteristics, it is important for users to independently and experimentally verify these numbers.

The one-hour tutorial will include detailed visuals and real time narration by an ATS thermal management expert. Topics covered will include the proper use of velocity sensors, wind tunnels, fans and blowers, computational fluid dynamics, and system and board design for maximizing cooling air flow. Online attendees will be able to key in questions during and after the presentation.
