Just over 800 local business people gathered for the 15th annual awards ceremony where Arizona businesses are honored for their contributions to the community. PADT was recognized by receiving the Hahnco Companies Entrepreneurial Leadership Award in recognition of what they have achieved and how they have used their success to help other companies grow and profit.

The company provides mechanical engineering services and tools to companies around the world, focusing on the areas of numerical simulation, product development, and rapid prototyping. The four owners of PADT; Rey Chu, Mark Johnson, Eric Miller, and Ward Rand, accepted the award on behalf of their employees during the ceremony. In the acceptance speech Eric Miller recounted how the company was founded in 1994 on two basic ideas, and little else. The first was the concept that high tech computer aided engineering and manufacturing has use far beyond the Aerospace applications it was developed for. The second was that a “group of nerdy engineers are capable of running a business that is not only profitable, but that is also a place that people want to work in.”

He went on to highlight how seventeen years later PADT has proven that “you can create something special, more than just a business. That it is possible to make a positive difference in how you spend your career and how others spend their careers.” The speech also highlighted the important contributions of the four owners’ wives, the group of business and financial advisors that PADT uses, and most importantly the intelligent and enthusiastic staff who “have not only made us successful, they have also made the journey much more enjoyable.”
