News For the third consecutive year, SoftInWay is donating its software to aid teams of students participating in the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Undergraduate Team Engine Design Competition.

SoftInWay will be donating educational versions of its software for the design and optimization of turbomachinery – AxSTREAM EDU.

Students will be able to utilize the software in tackling this year’s design challenge. The software will enable participants to move beyond the diagram phase of their projects to easily create full-view, three-dimensional machine components. AxSTREAM EDU is used by over 40 universities and 1,000 students around the world.

This year’s competition in centered on producing an ultra-high bypass ratio turbofan engine for the future. Teams are being asked to look to 2015 and design the turbofan for entry into service around that time to be used on twin-engine, wide-body passenger and freight aircrafts. The teams’ first goal is to increase propulsive efficiency at cruise conditions and reduce fuel burned as a result.

Teams must take a generic 3-spool model and modify it with their own system, and then demonstrate the improvements. Students will do this using the AxSTREAM EDU software to design, test, and alter their ideas. “AxSTREAM is an ideal platform for this competition as its capabilities are geared toward building and improving turbomachinery,” said SoftInWay CEO, Leonid Moroz, “We are happy to provide the tools these students need to create unique and innovative designs.”

Initial team reports are due March, 2015. First, second, and third place will be decided in June.
