The conference welcomed delegates to Chantilly (near Paris) to meet, listen and debate with attendees from academia and various industries including oil & gas, consumer products, automotive, motorsport, marine, process, energy, nuclear safety, industrial productivity solutions, consulting engineering, tobacco industry and glass manufacture. It gave plenty of opportunities for networking and was very well received as a valuable, stimulating and enjoyable event.

Keynotes from Volkswagen and Politecnico di Milano opened a two-day packed agenda with presentations showing innovative work in reacting, multiphase, environmental and compressible LES flows, acoustic analysis, flow in rotating machinery, CFD in Medicine and external aerodynamics.

Congratulations to Dr. Stefan Blume who won the ICON FOAMpro Design-an-Aircraft competition. Conference delegates were asked to define the optimal parameters for an aircraft with minimal drag using ICON FOAMpro's built-in GUI. Second and third place winners were Jiri Furst (Czech Technical University in Prague) and Dr. Octavian Frederich (Volkswagen).

The conference proceedings and image gallery are now available to download at opensourceCFD.com/conference2011.

Further innovative work can be found in our Technology Gallery.

ICON would like to thank all delegates, presenters, exhibitors and sponsors for helping to make the conference such a great success. In particular, our thanks go to our principal sponsor Intel and other sponsors BETA CAE Systems, Clustervision, QLogic and SGI, together with exhibitors Fraunhofer SCAI, Distene, Bull and Genias Graphics.

We look forward to seeing you in London in November 2012.
