News CD-adapco, the leading provider of computational fluid dynamic (CFD) and CAE software and services, today announced the publication of their Marine Report.

The 50-page document features over 20 industrial applications from the maritime industry. These examples explore how CFD has been used to optimize hull shapes, propulsion and steering systems, and to investigate, in detail, the interaction between marine structures and their environment.

The Marine Report features applications from Aker Yards Marine, Azimut-Benetti, Germanischer Lloyd, The Office of Naval Research, The U.S. Navy, Voith, Volvo Ocean Racing and many others.

"In common with the other examples in the report, Germanischer Lloyd has used the technology to good effect in their analysis of the unconventional Earthrace vessel, which recently set a new world record for a powered boat circling around the world," said Karsten Fach, Head of Competence Center Engineering Services of Germanischer Lloyd.

Professor Milovan Peric, CD-adapco's Director of Technology and a leading expert on fluid dynamics, flow modeling, and thermal and stress simulation techniques wrote the introduction to the report.

"Substantial improvements in CFD technology have made its application in the maritime sector an indispensable supplement to traditional experimental and computational design and optimization methods," said Professor Peric. "The report is beneficial for Marine companies who are trying to better understand how and where CFD is being used today, and where its development will lead in the future."
