New Axial Turbine Design and Optimization Course

News SoftInWay Inc., a developer of AxSTREAM™ - a powerful turbine design software suite that encompasses the complete engineering process of steam/gas axial turbine flow path, is pleased to announce the Axial Turbine Design and Optimization downloadable course for independent and classroom studies.

A new study program focuses on steam/gas turbine flow path design and optimization and includes a training manual and an AxSTREAM™ Educational Version 3-month license.

This practice- and design-oriented course is based on 400+ years of experience in turbine design and engineering by SoftInWay's team.

Upon course completion, a student should be able to:

  • Design flow path based on given overall requirements according to engine application (determine an appropriate geometry, number of stages (within the limitations imposed), and distribution of blade angles);
  • Assess design interactions between aerodynamic, mechanical integrity and blade cooling requirements for any separate stage;
  • Perform design optimization for both high pressure and low pressure turbine stages, encompassing 1D direct problem computation of multistage flow path and 2D direct problem computation of an individual stage;
  • Search for optimal twist law of relatively long blades;
  • Profile plain cascades with regard to aerodynamic criteria;
  • Perform 3D blade design with different lean and sweep

Spanning a concepts-to-details process of axial turbine design and retrofitting, the course will enrich students with application-oriented guidelines for new and existing turbine flow path designs along with techniques of design and optimization for the entire flow path.
