Boeing Buys Cray X1 Supercomputer

	Cray Inc. today announced that it won an order from The Boeing Company for a Cray X1™ supercomputer system and related services to support Boeing research and development efforts. Financial terms were not disclosed. The Cray X1 supercomputer, with a peak performance rating of more than 800 billion calculations per second (gigaflops), is scheduled to be installed in the Boeing Puget Sound data center at the close of this year. The system will be used primarily to run structural analysis and computational fluid dynamics codes, including the well-known OVERFLOW code.

"It's important that their skills and innovation are supported by advanced tools that allow them to find solutions that meet the needs of our customers and the traveling public." "The Cray X1 system has demonstrated sustained performance on key applications used by Boeing," said Jim Rottsolk, Cray chairman and chief executive officer. "We are proud that an industry leader of Boeing's stature is entrusting Cray to help them meet their demanding objectives. This win reflects our focus on solutions for advanced engineering design."
