Application R & D Magazine has a feature story on how CFD Modeling is Being Used for Medical Research. Examples of biomedical simulation cited in the article include blood clotting research, artery grafts, lung and trachea flow, drug delivery, and toxicology studies.
...biomedical engineering is being aided with the ability to reliably create 3-D models of large vessels that are patient specific. Adding to this acceptance by medical doctors, surgeons, and hospitals is that often the flow-related medical products that are currently involved in many procedures—heart valves, drug dispensing stents, inhalers, and catheters—have had extensive CFD procedures successfully performed on them during the design process.
