Application More information has come in regarding the previous story on CFD being used to design Lance Armstrong's Tour de France bicycle, including a nice image of flow over the front wheel and fork:

Blue Ridge Numerics is honored to announce the Trek Bicycle Corporation is using CFdesign®, the engineering world's preeminent upfront CFD solution, as an integrated component of the company's legendary product development process.

"We are pushing the boundaries of bicycle engineering and in order to sustain our speed of product innovation, we need to see and understand every aspect of product performance as early as possible during the design process," explains Michael Sagan, a Senior Trek Designer. "CFdesign gives us the necessary and comprehensive simulation platform we need to achieve our aggressive goals."

"The direction of the drag changes we get with different configurations in the wind tunnel agrees with the simulations we've analyzed thus far in CFdesign. Our confidence is growing every day and we are on path to conduct flow simulations on SolidWorks assemblies that are as complex as the ones we put in the tunnel," stated Damon Rinard, R & D Engineer at Trek's Advanced Concepts Group.

"Trek is a role model American company that began modestly but with great ambition. Today they are setting the pace on a global stage and we are truly excited to have our technology in their engineering tool box," stated Blue Ridge Numerics president, Ed Williams. "Our commitment to winning and being the best is on par with what we see at Trek, so I believe we will have a very successful relationship."
