Working on "Numerical Simulation of Flow of Power Law Fluid in an Elbow". I have used GAMBIT for modeling and meshing the geometry and then I imported the meshed geometry into FLUENT to do the analysis. A user defined function has been written for the viscosity of the modified power law fluid. The cases of both the shear-thickening and shear-thinning fluids have been considered. I am checking the grid independence of the obtained results right now.

Title: Flow of Power Law Fluid in Elbow Bend.
Advisor: Dr. Kumbakonam Rajagopal
 Continuity, momentum and energy equations were modelled and solved using the boundary conditions.
 The geometry in the problem (elbow bend) was modelled and then meshed using GAMBIT.
 The meshed configuration was imported into FLUENT and analysis was carried out by introducing a User Defined Function for defining the viscosity of power law model.
 The analysis was carried out for both shear thickening and shear thinning fluids.

Senior Year Project September 2006 – May 2007
Title: Optimization Studies on the Performance of a Single Cylinder Four Stroke Dual Fuel C.I. Engine Using Biodiesel from Mahua Oil.
 Biodiesel has been prepared from crude Mahua oil using Trans-Esterification process.
 Engine performance and emission characteristics were studied at different engine loads using LPG-Biodiesel.
 Optimum injection pressure and LPG rate were found considering performance and emission characteristics.

Extension of Summer Project June – August 2006 Title: Entrance Region Flow Heat Transfer in Concentric Annuli for a Herschel Bulkley Fluid.
 Analysis was carried out for different values of power law index and Herschel Bulkley number.
 For higher values of aspect ratio there was a sudden decrease in the temperature at the isothermal wall and was more gradual in the fully developed region.
 For lower values of Herschel-Bulkley number the temperature decreased more rapidly than for higher values.

Summer Project April – May 2006
Title: Entrance Region Flow Heat Transfer in Concentric Annuli for a Casson Fluid.
 Finite difference analysis of entrance region flow heat transfer in concentric annuli was carried out.
 Analysis was made for simultaneously developing hydrodynamic and thermal boundary layer.
 Continuity, momentum and integral form of continuity equations were solved using Newton-Raphson method for simultaneous non-linear equations to obtain the velocity profiles.
 Temperature profile was obtained by solving energy equation using Guass elimination method for simultaneous linear equations.

Mini Project January - February 2006
Title: Heat transfer in composite cylinder for varying thermal conductivity and heat generation under steady state
 C programming was used to find out the temperature distribution and heat flux through a composite cylinder.
 Temperature distribution equations have been modeled using three dimensional heat transfer equation.

Mini Project October - November 2005
Title: Controlling the speed of the motor using a control system.
 Both discrete and continuous control was achieved by using control system.
 Relays were used to implement the control of the speed of the motor.

Mini Project March - April 2005
Title: Design of animal driven box type saw mill.
 Dearilleur gear mechanism was used in order to compensate for the variable speed and fatigue of the animal.
 Cost analysis has also been performed and the modeling has been done using PROE software.

Mini Project September – October 2004
Title: Design and Simulation of cam and follower motion using C programming.
 Knife edge, roller, flat, and mushroom type of followers were considered for the simulation.
 Displacement, velocity and acceleration of the follower have been determined for various positions of the cam.
