Projects Handled in Aeronautical Development Agency: Package Used : PARAS 3D, CATIA V5 (Surface Modeling) Platform : LINUX, Windows XP PARAS 3D An in-house CFD tool, PARAS’3D, a 3D, Finite Volume Method based, Approximate Riemann Solver, to predict the pressure distribution, force and moments over the complete aircraft on a cluster of 34 Pentium III PC’s. Computational times were on the order of hours for a grid of approximately 500,000 cells for each case. Upwind, Pressure for Subsonic and Upwind, Shift for Supersonic were specified as the Boundary conditions for asymmetric case. In case of a symmetric case, Upwind, Symmetry and Pressure for Subsonic and Upwind, Symmetry and Shift were specified as the boundary conditions. Computations are carried out at various attitudes. Drag Reduction studies The objective of the projects was to make a detail analysis of various flow phenomena over a complex geometry and to estimate the Drag values. The goal of the projects was to investigate the unitary effects of a fighter aircraft at various attitudes and flow conditions. Finally all these pressure distribution and force and moment coefficients were validated with wind tunnel results. Project 1 : Wave drag reduction in modern aircraft by using transonic area ruling. Project 2 : Inboard, Midboard, Outboard and Under Fuselage Pylon supersonic drag reduction by shape optimization. Description : The projects has been modeled and modified in CATIA V5 (Surface Modeling) using advanced aerodynamic concepts and imported into PARAS 3D for detailed analysis. 2. High Speed Compressible Flow Analysis over modern fighter aircraft fin with and without antenna and prediction of various complex flow phenomena. Package Used : FLUENT / IcemCFD Platform : Windows XP Project Description: The objective of the project was to make a detail analysis of various flow phenomena over modern fighter aircraft fin. The fin has been repaired to remove holes in Catia V5 and imported into IcemCFD in IGES format for meshing. Tetra/tri elements were used to mesh the whole flow domain. Then the imported mesh was analyzed in FLUENT (K-€ model) at various Mach no’s ranging from 0.6-1.6 and at various angle of attack ranging from 3 to 25 degree.From the output results, pressure distributions, Mach no distribution and more importantly flow separation and vortex flow over the body were analyzed and compared with PARAS code.
