Application: Formula 1 works with AWS to Develop Next Generation Race Car

Application Amazon Web Services, Inc. (AWS), an Amazon.com company, and Formula One Group (Formula 1) have completed a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) project to simulate the aerodynamics of cars while racing, carrying out detailed simulations that have resulted in the car design for the 2021 racing season.

The CFD project used over 1,150 compute cores to run detailed simulations comprising of over 550 million data points that model the impact of one car’s aerodynamic wake on another.

News Version 9.1 of FINE™/Open with OpenLabs™ is out now, offering big savings in engineering and CPU time.

It includes the new AutoSeal tool that automatically creates surfaces to close holes and gaps for any given configurations. It allows for example to prepare a simulation-ready car cabin geometry in a few minutes, while this usually requires weeks of engineering effort.

News Flow Science has released the HPC-enabled FLOW-3D version 12.0. The HPC version of FLOW-3D v12.0 can be run on in-house clusters or on the FLOW-3D CLOUD software as a service platform, which provides high performance computing as well as our lowest cost entry-point to use FLOW-3D.

Existing HPC customers and IT admins will benefit from one-time cluster hardware configuration setup, improved support for multiple job schedulers, and a simplified interface for setting up simulation on any compatible HPC platform.

Application ArianeGroup is the world's leading designer and manufacturer of rocket launchers, a joint venture equally owned by Airbus and Safran. Their activities cover the entire life-cycle of a space launcher: design, development, production, operation and commercial service — the latter through their subsidiary Arianespace. They built and operate Ariane 5, the most reliable launcher on the commercial market today, and are developing the next-generation Ariane 6 launcher, for which they are the design authority.

Application: CFD Used to Explore Truck Platooning Technologies

Application Pointwise has published the case study, Researchers use CFD to Help Quantify the Benefits of Truck Platooning Technologies, which is based on research done at Auburn University.

The practice of drafting – where moving objects are grouped tightly together to conserve energy by exploiting the lead object’s slipstream – has been used in motorsports, cycling, and speedskating for years. Right now, however, drafting is too dangerous on the open road.
