Application: Respirator Modeling - Fit and Function

Application When the National Institute of Science and Technology (NIST) needed to come up with a safer, more effective respirator mask for firefighters, it turned to a company that has made its living combining finite element analysis (FEA) with computational fluid dynamics (CFD): Predictive Engineering Inc. in Portland, Oregon.

Respirator masks have historically been designed with a lot of silicone rubber to slop over a range of faces. This works adequately for many facial sizes but not for all.

Discrete Simulation of Fluid Dynamics

News Royal Society Publishing has recently published a double volume Discrete Simulation of Fluid Dynamics – Methods and Applications compiled and edited by Luca Biferale, Peter V Coveney, Sauro Succi and Stefano Ubertini.

The two CFD-themed volumes are available for free through December 31st, 2011.
