Announcements CPFD Software, LLC, the creators of the Barracuda® simulation package for particle-fluid systems, today announced the fall 2011 schedule for their popular training courses.

The course Modeling of Industrial Fluidized Systems using CPFD Barracuda will be held September 26-30 and November 14-18, 2011. The five-day training courses are both to be held at the company’s Albuquerque, NM, headquarters office.

News An Optimal Solutions article describes how NASA Langley's FUN3D CFD software can be combined with Sculptor to provide Adjoint-Based Optimization.

In the context of design optimization, adjoint-based methods offer a very efficient alternative to traditional forward-mode sensitivity analysis using black-box finite-differencing, direct differentiation, operator overloading, or complex-variable formulations.

News SGI, a trusted leader in technical computing, announced that it has completed the acquisition of OpenCFD Ltd., the leader in open source computational fluid dynamics.

"Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is one of the most important application areas for technical computing," said SGI CEO Mark J. Barrenechea. "With the acquisition of OpenCFD Ltd., SGI will be able to provide our customers the market's first fully integrated CFD solution, where all the hardware and software work together."
