Announcements Effective Use of CFD for In-Flight Icing Certification will be held April 13 to 17, 2009 at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, USA.

Aircraft, Rotorcraft, Jet Engines and UAVs flying through icing clouds encounter the problem of ice formation on critical surfaces, on nacelles, in engines and on appendages (probes/detectors/antennae/optronics). This can jeopardize flight by altering aerodynamic performance and reducing handling qualities.

Announcements The NAFEMS Quality & Reliability in Aerospace CFD Seminar will take place on Wednesday, 4th March 2009 at the East Midlands Conference Centre in Nottingham.

For commercial aircraft, concerns over carbon emissions and the high cost of fuel help drive the quest for improved efficiency. Noise impact on densely populated areas provides another environmental concern. Minimizing drag is clearly important for efficient high speed cruise, but high lift is essential for safe low-speed takeoff and landing. CFD plays a major role in aircraft aerodynamics, where the requirements continue to push the capabilities of CFD technology.

News One of the new QuickTools in EnSight 9.0 allows the user to generate "Skyboxes".

What is a skybox? The idea behind a skybox is that a carefully constructed texture, if mapped onto a cube appears like the sky and horizon from inside of the cube. A picture is the best way to explain. In the animation, you can see the skybox from both outside of the textured cube and from inside of the cube. When you place geometry inside of the cube, it appears to be inside of an environment.
