Business: CEI Licenses ABAQUS Reader to Red Cedar Technology

News Computational Engineering International (CEI) announced today an agreement to license its ABAQUS ODB API Reader to East Lansing, M.I.-based Red Cedar Technology. The agreement will make it possible for Red Cedar Technology to incorporate the reader into its HEEDS application, a program which interfaces with all popular computer-aided engineering (CAE) applications to automate the design optimization process.

CEI’s ABAQUS ODB API Reader will allow Red Cedar Technology to enhance its HEEDS program by creating a more specialized interface to ABAQUS.

CD-adapco Dassault Systèmes (DS), a world leader in 3D and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) solutions, announces the availability of a powerful coupled-analysis capability for fluid-structure interaction (FSI) utilizing ABAQUS, the technology-leading finite element analysis (FEA) software from their SIMULIA brand, and STAR-CD, a market-leading computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software from CD-adapco.

The new FSI solution builds on the SIMULIA strategy of delivering an open platform for multiphysics simulation. The bi-directional coupling leverages a strong partnership with CD-adapco and the independent, open solution for the coupling—MpCCI software from Fraunhofer SCAI—to enable ABAQUS and STAR-CD to work together to solve a wide range of important FSI problems.

Solvers: Why Use a Panel Method?

Solver Panel methods can calculate the gas or liquid flow around complex 3D configurations, such as aircraft, with relative ease. However, that ease comes at a price: panel methods are incapable of modeling the viscous effects that are evident in all real-world flows. So why would an engineer use a panel method?

Application Getting a new extrusion die to shape a profile that meets design specifications has often been more art than science.

However, the science of CFD is now being used to shorten die-design tasks with die balancing and reverse engineering.
