Business: CEI's EnSight Visualization Suite to Be Distributed by LEAP

News Computational Engineering International (CEI) has announced that the Australia-based firm LEAP Australia will distribute all of the American developer’s visualization software in both Australia and New Zealand.

Best-known for its industry-leading EnSight software, CEI produces a full range of software applications for the scientific and engineering community covering aspects of simulation including meshing, plotting, process workflow, animation, and visualization.

Events: NAFEMS World Congress 2007 – Preliminary Agenda

News NAFEMS, The International Association for the Engineering Analysis Community, has announced the preliminary agenda for its 11th International Congress to be held in Vancouver, Canada, on May 22nd-25th, 2007. With as many as four parallel sessions running over three days, the Congress is sure to provide great benefit to all those involved in simulation, FEA, CFD, MBS and CAD/CAM.

The Congress will bring together world leading industrial practitioners, consultancies, academic researchers and software developers with a common interest in engineering analysis. ABAQUS/SIMULA are Principal Sponsors of the 2007 Congress, and the AIAA are co-sponsors.

Call for Papers: COMSOL Conference 2007 Boston

Announcements COMSOL, Inc., will hold its third annual conference in the USA on October 4-6 at the Boston Marriott Newton.

It will highlight work in the field of multiphysics modeling and simulation using COMSOL Multiphysics. Authors of accepted submissions will present their work at the conference and submit a paper for the proceedings, which last year was distributed in CD format to more than 100,000 individuals around the world.

FORTRAN Creator John Backus Dies

News John W. Backus, who assembled and led the IBM team that created Fortran, the first widely used programming language, which helped open the door to modern computing, died on Saturday at his home in Ashland, Ore. He was 82.

Fortran, released in 1957, was "the turning point" in computer software, much as the microprocessor was a giant step forward in hardware, according to J.A.N. Lee, a leading computer historian.
