Call for Papers: COMSOL Conference 2007 Boston

Announcements COMSOL, Inc., will hold its third annual conference in the USA on October 4-6 at the Boston Marriott Newton.

It will highlight work in the field of multiphysics modeling and simulation using COMSOL Multiphysics. Authors of accepted submissions will present their work at the conference and submit a paper for the proceedings, which last year was distributed in CD format to more than 100,000 individuals around the world.

FORTRAN Creator John Backus Dies

News John W. Backus, who assembled and led the IBM team that created Fortran, the first widely used programming language, which helped open the door to modern computing, died on Saturday at his home in Ashland, Ore. He was 82.

Fortran, released in 1957, was "the turning point" in computer software, much as the microprocessor was a giant step forward in hardware, according to J.A.N. Lee, a leading computer historian.

News Kevin E. Colburn, a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) engineer and specialist in computer-aided engineering (CAE) with more than a decade of experience, has joined CEI to head the company’s Houston office in the role of sales manager.

In addition to serving clients within Texas, Colburn will be responsible for new and existing accounts throughout the Southwest.
