Application: Coolit Analysis Improves Thermal Design

Application The whole point of simulation software is to test ideas on the fringe. Simulation takes little investment and turnaround is faster than with prototypes.

A Machine Design article investigates the use of Coolit CFD software to improve the thermal performance of a Honeywell process-control system. Thermal specialists reasoned that if each module were tilted at the correct angle, room air could enter the bottom right side of each module, flow across it and exit the top left side.

But would it work? Physical testing could cost thousands, so they turned to simulation.

Announcements LMS International will host a webseminar on the simulation of flow induced noise on June 1st, 2006.

The aero-acoustics simulation tools from LMS help you evaluate the noise from unsteady flow phenomena like vortex shedding and turbulent boundary layers by coupling Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) methods with Computational Acoustics.

The aero-acoustics simulation tools from LMS offer a set of capabilities and user-friendly interfaces to transform the time-domain CFD data into equivalent aero-acoustics sources in the frequency domain. State-of-the-art acoustic BEM analyses will then return accurate predictions of the noise levels generated by these sources.

Events: Pump and Fan 3D Inverse Design Workshop
Posted Wed May 24, 2006 @02:48PM
Print version Email story Tweet story
Announcements Advanced Design Technology (ADT) will host a two day aero/hydrodynamic design training workshop for incompressible flow turbomachinery applications on June 29-30, 2006 in Detroit.

The workshop will introduce the inverse design process and compare this with conventional design. It will enable participants to apply the unique features of TURBOdesign-1 3-D inverse design code, coupled with TURBOcfd in the hydrodynamics/aerodynamics design of their own specific blade row, under the supervision of experienced design staff from ADT.
