Events: Fluent Launches International CFD Conference Dedicated to Oil & Gas

ANSYS FLUENT Fluent, the world leader in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software and services, has announced the details for its inaugural International Oil & Gas CFD Conference (IOCC) to be held in London, UK on 30 November – 1 December 2006.

The IOCC will be the world’s only event dedicated to the application of CFD in the oil and gas industry. It will provide a forum to showcase the rapidly growing capabilities of flow simulation technologies and the ever increasing list of design problems it is applied to.

Events: Large Eddy Simulation of Short Course Scheduled

News A new Short Course on "Large Eddy Simulation (LES) of Transitional and Turbulent Flows: Numerical, Physical & Implementation Issues" will be held at Cranfield University on 6-8 November 2006.

The 3-day intensive Short Course is intended to cover in detail a number of LES issues including: numerical methods; subgrid scale models; validation; analysis of results; relation of numerical dissipation and subgrid scale models; implicit and hybrid LES methods; effects of initial and boundary conditions; and implementation in structured and unstructured grids.

News In a now characteristic display of cool driving, Fernando Alonso took his tenth career victory in the Australian Grand Prix. Starting from third position on the grid, the Spaniard dominated an action-packed race that featured no fewer than four safety car periods. After taking the lead on lap 4 in a perfectly-judged maneuver on Jenson Button's Honda, the 24 year old World Champion only relinquished it during the first round of pit-stops, eventually piloting his R26 to the Renault F1 Team's third consecutive victory.

"The car was perfect," beamed the victorious Alonso, "there wasn't any risk of losing victory at any time".

Events: Improving Aluminum Plant Energy Efficiency

ANSYS FLUENT Fluent will host an online event titled Improving the Energy Efficiency of a Secondary Aluminum Plant Through a Plantwide Assessment on April 13, 2006 from 10-11 am EDT.

This online seminar is intended to demonstrate how measurements and modeling can result in significant energy savings in a secondary aluminum plant.

Energy costs represent a significant cost of production for an aluminum plant. These energy costs are expected to rise at a much higher rate than any other cost for the plant in the near future.

New Software: Pointwise Offers Gridgen on SGI Prism

News Pointwise announces the availability of their CFD meshing software, Gridgen Version 15.09, on the Silicon Graphics Prism Deskside workstation.

"The first SGI workstation to which Gridgen was ported was a Model 2400 back in 1987," said John Steinbrenner, Pointwise's Vice President of Research and Development. "We are very excited to continue our 19 year relationship with SGI on their latest workstation, the Prism."
