New Software: Fluent Releases Icepak 4.2
Posted Thu October 20, 2005 @08:20PM
Print version Email story Tweet story
News Fluent Inc., the world leader in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software, releases version 4.2 of its Icepak™ electronics cooling design software. The newest version of Icepak incorporates optimization capabilities for thermal design of electronic systems. Design optimization obviates the need for trial-and-error simulations in determining the optimum parameters of a thermal design. The ease-of-use of Icepak's embedded optimization module coupled with its efficient gradient-based optimization algorithm enables the thermal design process to be completed in hours rather than days.

ESI Group Developing Aerodynamic Shape Optimization Software
Posted Thu October 13, 2005 @08:28AM
Print version Email story Tweet story
News ESI Group announces a breakthrough in Simulation Based Design (SBD) by implementing a new technology, called PAM-FLOW™/AS (Adjoint Solver), into its Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) solutions for aerodynamic shape optimization.

CFD related optimization is a very demanding task in terms of computational resources. The key advantage of the adjoint solution based method is that it requires fewer design iterations regardless of the number of design parameters, and therefore drastically cuts the number of Design of Experiment (DOE) simulations in the optimization process.

Explore the QNET-CFD Knowledge Base
Posted Wed October 12, 2005 @10:46AM
Print version Email story Tweet story
News Experience reveals that, in the industrial context at least, CFD is a difficult technology to apply successfully. The practitioner must be highly skilled and knowledgeable in order to set up and/or select model inputs appropriately, and then to be in a position to interpret the results reliably against design or assessment requirements.

A degree of uncertainty tends to prevail even in the hands of an expert. In short, the practice of CFD must be viewed as a knowledge-based activity. Despite the fact that highly sophisticated CFD analysis codes are widely available, the construction of this all important knowledge base has received little attention until now.
