Events: Surface Wrapping Seminar From CD-adapco
Posted Thu August 11, 2005 @05:13PM
Print version Email story Tweet story
CD-adapco After the success of our recent Surface Wrapping Webinar, and by popular request, CD-adapco is pleased to be able to offer you the opportunity to take part in this webinar once more on August 15, 2005 (BST 5pm, EST noon, CST 11am, MST 10am, PST 9am). The webinar will once again demonstrate our all-new surface wrapping technology.

By automatically repairing dirty or over-complex CAD, surface wrapping addresses the most significant remaining bottleneck in the CAE process. Whilst previous wrapping approaches required a great deal of manual intervention in order to obtain a meshing quality surface, CD-adapco's new wrapping technology guarantees a closed manifold surface at every wrap.

Hardware Linux Networx has announced that The Eurocopter Group, a division of Europe’s leading aeronautical group EADS, has deployed an Evolocity® Linux Networx computing system at its German location. Eurocopter Deutschland GmbH is using the system to perform fluid simulations on helicopters and helicopter subsystems.

The Evolocity system Linux Networx delivered is implemented with two different types of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) applications – FLOWer and FLUENT. FLOWer, is a research application developed by the German Aerospace Research Centre for aircraft development and design. FLUENT is a commercial software product from Fluent Inc. that simulates a wide range of applications in the aerospace, automotive, and general process industries. Linux Networx designed the Evolocity system for Eurocopter to specifically optimize these applications to achieve fast, accurate results.

News Sand core engineering has taken another technological leap forward with the release of version 5.0 of the Arena-flow computer-aided engineering software for core making and tooling design from Ashland Casting Solutions, a business group of Ashland Specialty Chemical, a division of Ashland Inc. Advanced particle physics, proprietary mathematical models, new grid generation/analysis capabilities and several other significant enhancements have removed complexity and added functionality.

“With Arena-flow version 5.0 users can have advanced control over new particle flow, tooling wear, and core density models,” said Mark Adamovits, senior product manager, Ashland Casting Solutions. “The improvements now available in version 5.0 provide users with several additional tools to improve productivity, reduce costs, shorten development timelines and eliminate costly process design errors. The additional development of a new, intuitive and more user-friendly graphical user interface (GUI) has also generated some very positive feedback from our current user base in the Americas, Europe and Asia.”

New Software: Gridgen Version 15.08 Now Up To 15 Times Faster
Posted Thu July 28, 2005 @08:12AM
Print version Email story Tweet story
News Pointwise, Inc. released Gridgen Version 15.08 today. This latest release of CFD meshing software includes a major enhancement of the software’s numerical techniques for hexahedral grids.

Structured hexahedral grid generation has long been one of Gridgen’s strengths. Smoothing hex grids to improve quality (smoothness, clustering, and orthogonality) involves the solution of elliptic partial differential equations (PDE). Up until recently, a simple pointwise, successive over-relaxation algorithm was used to compute the solution. In V15.08, a new multi-grid algorithm accelerates convergence of the PDE solution by up to a factor of 15, especially for large grids.
