Help with Jet Simulation

Help Desk amjaiin writes " Hi all,

I am a new user in Fluent. I want to simulate a vertical water jet in 2D in the presence of gravity and air. For this I made the geometry as such: a rectangle grid with the bottom edge as a wall and side edges as pressure outlets. The upper edge is also a pressure outlet except for a small edge, representing the jet, which is a velocity inlet. Will this configuration work?

In fluent, I am using the k-eplison model with the gravity option and the operating media as air.

But when I am simulate the jet using this model, I don't get the result I expect (it gives some upward motion after few cms).

Please suggest some changes I should make to correct the model.

Pointwise Starts User Script Exchange Site

News Pointwise, Inc. has established the Glyph Script Exchange on their website for Gridgen users to share Glyph scripts with each other. Glyph is Gridgen’s scripting language. It is based on the Tcl scripting language and lets users have complete control over Gridgen’s meshing capabilities through a script interface.

Glyph scripts have a variety of uses. They can function as time saving utilities for changing grid spacing, number of grid points, colors of grids, and other menial tasks. Intermediate level scripts can be used for more complex jobs like creating simple volume grids and performing a suite of quality checks on a completed grid automatically. At the highest level are Glyph scripts that build complete mesh systems parametrically. Parametric scripts have been developed for turbine blades, torque converters, centrifugal compressors and pumps, high-lift flap systems for aircraft wings, submarines, and several other applications. Many more are under development.

New Software: Hanley Releases VisualFoil Plus

News Hanley Innovations, a leader in the development of software for aerodynamics conceptual design and analysis, has announced the release of VisualFoil Plus.

VisualFoil Plus is a stand-alone package for airfoil (2D) design and analysis in incompressible and compressible flows. The software can be used to analyze airfoils at subsonic, transonic and supersonic speeds and is suitable for analyzing blade cross sections for machinery that typically operate at high speeds such as helicopter blades, propellers, turbines and high speed fans.
