New Software: AxSTREAM Adds Low Pressure Turbine Blade Design

News SoftInWay, Inc. a front-end digital prototyping and turbomachinery design company and developer of AxSTREAM™ - a professional tool for rapid axial turbine flow path design, has introduced a new software tool for extremely long blade design.

The design of steam turbine low pressure (LP) blades is more difficult than normal blade design due to large radial dimensions that in turn cause high centrifugal loads on the blade. AxSTREAM is able to handle such cases and successfully lays the foundation for 3D CFD analysis aimed at building an aerodynamically perfect flow path providing reliable blade operation.

An advantage of AxSTREAM's blade design is the capability to export the blade geometry to any CFD solver for high-fidelity 3D CFD analysis and to import the 3D simulation results back into AxSTREAM. This capability accelerates the data preparation procedure for 3D CFD modeling.

Autodesk Certifies CFdesign v7 for Inventor 9

CFdesign Blue Ridge Numerics has announced that the latest release of its CFdesign software has been certified for Autodesk Inventor® 9 under the Autodesk Inventor Certified Applications Program.

CFdesign v7.0 focuses on rapid product optimization with new capabilities to enable mainstream product development engineers working on tight deadlines. The speed in which CFdesign uses highly complex Autodesk Inventor 3D assemblies to analyze and qualitatively compare design variations sets CFdesign apart from traditional CFD applications. On average, implementing CFdesign can reduce the time it takes to develop, test, and prove a new product design by 70% while reducing the costs associated with staff time and materials by 65%.

A special demonstration CD has been produced for engineers involved in product development using Autodesk Inventor.

New Software: ICEM Releases Cloud of Points to CAD Converter

News ICEM Ltd., the leading developer of surface modelling, analysis and visualisation software, has announced a new standalone software product for reverse engineering applications.

ICEM RevEng enables users to efficiently handle 3D digitised data imported as individual points from tactile measuring devices, as point clouds or facet data from laser scanners, or from photogrammetry systems. In addition to standard ASCII-based and STL formats, proprietary formats from individual scanner manufacturers are also supported.

Using ICEM RevEng’s in-built quick surfacing facilities, surfaces can also be automatically generated through a user-defined patch structure. Surface models created this way can be used in other, parallel processes such as computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis, tooling design and packaging investigation, where software that cannot support facet (scan) data or that doesn’t need Class A quality surface data is used.

ICEM RevEng is priced at Euro 16,000 (US$18,400) and will be available for customer shipments in the Autumn of this year.

Announcements Concepts NREC's 2004 educational program is in full swing. If you haven't yet made plans to attend, it isn't too late to sign up.

Concepts NREC educational programs are for professional engineers, managers, sales and marketing professionals, and others in the turbomachinery industry who need to know about the latest design tools and capabilities, who want to improve or expand their product range, or who specify, install, use, or troubleshoot turbomachinery equipment.

Courses address a full range of technologies from basic fluid mechanics and thermodynamic principles to structural and vibration analysis, computational fluid dynamics, and advanced materials. Programs can also be customized to meet the specific needs of individual companies. Participants earn CEUs for the courses and several of the courses are available for graduate credits.
