Dating from 1851, the America’s Cup is the oldest and most desired trophy in the world of sailing. In the 32nd edition of the America's Cup, BMW ORACLE Racing team will be striving to win the America’s Cup from the title holder Team Alinghi, the defending champions
BMW ORACLE Racing, is employing the best possible technology in its racing yacht design development. In order to study the dynamics of flow, the design team has selected the CD adapco Group, the leading global provider of computational engineering solutions, to provide CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) software.
“For this demanding work we require precision, production capability and some specific functionality only found in CD adapco Group’s software. We work the software hard to achieve an optimal design for our sailors to take into battle for the America’s Cup,” says Ian Burns, BMW ORACLE Racing, Design Coordinator. “By working alongside CD adapco Group we gain a great advantage from having the right tool combined with a great team. We all share a common goal: success.”

Leading mechanical engineering and environmental consultancy, The Waterman Group, has signed an agreement with Fluent Europe Ltd to use its world leading FLUENT CFD software.
The Waterman Group will be applying CFD modelling to areas of its consultancy services including internal ventilation, to design energy efficient natural ventilation schemes, and external flow modelling, which allows the company to accurately predict pedestrian comfort. The company has been involved in the design of a number of major projects, both in the UK and abroad. FLUENT CFD software is currently being used to predict airflow movement to assess occupant comfort for an atrium design study at Saint Katharines Dock (K2) in London, and to model internal ventilation for the White City project in London.
Commenting on the new deal, Vartan Moskofian, Associate designate at The Waterman Group, says: "CFD modelling is an increasingly important aspect of our consultancy services as it allows us to assess a design at the conceptual stage before it is built. However, as with all things, the quality of the tool being used is important to get the right result and in FLUENT we believe we have the best there is."

The financial site Motley Fool has written a glowing review of ANSYS's finances which have met estimates for 26 consecutive quarters. It's nice to see engineering analysis companies mentioned in the financial media and for once the press is rewarding a company for having long-term goals rather than managing for short-term profit.
