Currently, engineering analysis of stress and thermal effects in structures is typically performed in isolation from the analysis of fluid flow phenomena, despite the impact of flow-induced forces and heat transfer on a structure and the impact of a structure on the fluid. The Fluent-ABAQUS initiative will provide engineers with easy-to-use tools that will take into account these important coupling effects including sophisticated simulation of nonlinear structural responses.

The CFX Team in Germany was recently approached by a customer faced with the need to deliver his products to an ever-increasing number of clients, in a limited delivery period (one night). At his disposal is a single delivery vehicle, and the propulsion for the delivery vehicle is fixed at 9 RP (Reindeer Power). Therefore, reduced aerodynamic drag could lead to significant increases in vehicle speed, and consequently allow delivery to be made in the required time.
