Grid Generation: Help Requested Converting a Grid Format

Help Desk I have a mesh file which has "PFG" format (PLOT3D 3D UNFORMATED). I would like to use it in Fluent 6 software, but this software can not support this format. What should I do? Please help me. Thanks a lot.

News Fluent Inc., world leader in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software is partnering with Concepts NREC and Engineous Software to offer a Lunch ’n Learn Seminar on the Design, Analysis and Optimization of Turbomachinery, Tuesday, October 7, from 9 a.m to 3 p.m., in Southfield, MI.

The seminar is an excellent opportunity for designers, analysts and managers to see how off the shelf software from Concepts NREC, Fluent and Engineous can be used to build a complete simulation-based design system for turbomachinery. The morning session will include a live demonstration of the Agile Engineering Design System, EASy! For Pumps, focused on the design of an automotive water cooling pump.

The demonstration will employ the iSIGHT integration and optimization tool to determine an optimum impeller blade shape and the embedded FLUENT CFD volute module to analyze and optimize the volute geometry. In addition to hydraulics, geometrical constraints and low-cost manufacturing issues will be included in the design exercise. The design approach that will be presented is applicable to all classes of turbomachinery including pumps, fans and turbochargers.

News ESSS and ANSYS CFX invite all South American CFX Users and people interested in CFD technology, particularly the software CFX, to participate in the 1st CFX South American Users Conference to be held in Florianópolis from October 20th until 22nd.

It is important to mention that this Conference is going to be the first of its kind held in South America and we hope it will be a tremendous success as was the Oil Workshop held earlier this year by ESSS and PETROBRAS in Rio de Janeiro.

AMD Releases Opteron 146 and 846 Processors

Hardware techman writes "AMD has released and Opteron Model 146 for 1P workstations and Opteron Model 846 for 4- to 8-way-capable servers , both at 2GHz.

The AMD Opteron processor is based on AMD’s eighth-generation processor core, which marked the introduction of AMD64, the industry’s first 64-bit, x86 technology implementation. Application: Assessing Wind Power Potential of a Site with CFD

The power and energy output of a wind turbine is a cubic function of the wind speed. Doubling the wind speed can mean a substantial increase in the energy output, thereby improving the economic viability of an installation. It is vital to assess the wind power potential of a site with as much accuracy as possible, taking into account seasonal as well as year to year variations in the local wind climate.

The standard way to assess the potential of a site is to measure the on-site wind conditions carefully and consistently for at least a year. Since wind conditions can vary significantly from year to year, measurements are usually correlated with measurements taken at a nearby site, for which a longer-term record is available. The measurements at the site of interest are then 'corrected' for the long-term trend.

At the time of assessing the wind energy potential of the site of Mt-Crosin East, Jakob Vollenweider, of the Swiss utility company JUVENT, considered an alternative option. In addition to a short-term measurement campaign, he commissioned a CFD analysis of the wind conditions on the site, which, together with a long-term data set at the meteorological station of Chasseral a few kilometers away, allowed construction of wind potential maps in the area of Mt-Crosin.
