FLUENT Eulerian Granular Model Suitability?

Help Desk ap writes "I'm tying to simulate a riser using FLUENT 6.0 Eulerian granular model, but results doesn't agree with experimental data.

I'd like to know how suitable is the model implemented in FLUENT to simulate risers, and how is it accurate. Did someone used it successfully?

New Software: Mixing Simulation Gets Easier

News Fluent Inc., in its continued commitment to providing CFD simulation technology to the process industry, releases MixSim 2.0 for use in modeling industrial mixing tank applications. MixSim has a mixing specific interface and is fully coupled with Fluent Inc.'s other packages (GAMBIT 2 for geometry and grid generation, and the FLUENT 6 solver for solver and physical models). The new intelligent geometry and meshing algorithms in MixSim 2.0, combined with mixing specific graphical presentation of results, enables users to set up CFD simulations of complex mixing tank configurations in a matter of minutes.

Uniquely in MixSim 2.0, the code allows for multiple arbitrarily positioned shafts and baffles with various top and bottom vessel shapes. MixSim's coupling to libraries of brand name and generic impeller types also leads to rapid mixing tank problem set up and solution for parametric mixing related analyses. Events: Fluent's Hosts European Automotive CFD Conference

News Fluent's combined offices in Europe are pleased to present the programme for the upcoming Automotive CFD Conference they are hosting for CFD users in Bingen, Germany, June 25-26, 2003.

Highlights of the event include the presentations of 20 leading edge applied automotive CFD papers covering traditional CFD application areas such as aerodynamics, climate control, powertrain and underhood thermal management, but also extending to new and novel multiphase and non-conventional automotive CFD applications like condensation and paintshops. Companies presenting at the conference include Opel, Volvo, PSA, Delphi, Skoda, MIRA, Ferrari and Sauber Formula 1 Teams, Advantage CFD, Mann & Hummel, Eberspaecher, Livbag, TRW, Arsenal Research, Duerr Systems and Fraunhofer IPA. Research: Simution of Bubble Column Reactors

Help Desk I am Ph.D student and doing bubble column simulations...problem consists of sparging air in a column filled with water. I am using FLUENT 6.0 and FLUENT 4.5.6 for the simution. I need a help in specifying the boundary condition at the top to model the escaping air.

As such I am putting a velocity inlet as the top boundary condition, but resulting in convergence problem. I tried outflow or outlet condition, which is little bit unrealistic as air is escaping from the top surface...Can anybody help?

Need Help with Two Phase Problem!

Help Desk Sak writes "I am working on a heat transfer related geometry in Fluent which has two phases, a solid and liquid in contact. I get an interface between two phases, i.e., wall boundary and a "shadow" of the same boundary.

I want to define these boundaries with a particular temperature, but I can't do it. I have to "couple" these two boundaries. I can either assign some thickness to that boundary or/and assign heat generation (W/m3) value to it.

Is there anyway, I can assign temperature to these walls ?

Also, from wall and wall shadow, how can I know which boundary refers to solid phase and which one to liquid phase, when in the display it shows me the same boundary?"

Application: CFD Demonstrates Safety of Nuclear Waste Facility

Computer simulation helped Westinghouse Safety Management Solutions (WSMS) engineers demonstrate that benzene mixing within a large vapor space would proceed quickly enough to prevent the formation of a significant volume of gas above the lower flammability limit (LFL). This issue arose in the licensing of a nuclear waste processing operation that produced benzene as a byproduct. While experimental methods could only measure benzene concentration at a few discrete points, computational fluid dynamics measured it throughout the vapor space as a function of time. The analysis correlated well with physical measurements.

Westinghouse Safety Management Solutions is a wholly owned subsidiary of Westinghouse Savannah River Company (WSRC). WSRC is the prime contractor for the DOE Savannah River site in Aiken, SC, and performs all types of safety work for the DOE facilities around the country.
