Events: Reynolds Day

News The UK Pilot Centre of ERCOFTAC (the European Research Community on Flow, Turbulence and Combustion) has proposed an annual day called Osborne Reynolds Day in honour of one of our most outstanding fluid mechanicists. This event is proposed to meet and exchange ideas, and hear some outstanding overview research lectures on key aspects of our subject - that is, in Flow Turbulence and Combustion (FTAC).

As well as a programme of keynote lectures, there will be oral presentations of interesting current and re-cently completed PhD research projects. The best presentation will be awarded The Osborne Reynolds Prize.

Visualization: Immersive 3D Visualization Under Linux

Hardware Fakespace Systems, makers of immersive visualization environments, and Xi Graphics, makers of hardware graphics drivers for the Linux OS, have teamed to develop a new software driver that enables stereoscopic immersive environments to run on the Linux platform.

Now Fakespace visualization systems that incorporate digital projection technology, such as the CAVE®, RAVE II™, WorkWall™, and ImmersaDesk®, can run Linux-based applications using off-the-shelf graphics cards.

"The demand for Linux-based software applications in the government and education sectors is growing," said Steve Fine, vice president of engineering at Fakespace Systems. "By teaming with XiG, we are able to provide a complete solution for engineers and researchers using Linux applications to solve complex problems using the world's most advanced visualization systems."

CFdesign Partners with 3 MCAD Leaders at NDES

News Blue Ridge Numerics Inc. announces that its flagship product, CFdesign® v6.0, will be demonstrated in three booths at the upcoming National Design & Engineering Show being held at Chicago’s McCormick Place Exhibition Center, March 3-6, 2003. Attendees will be given the opportunity to see CFdesign fluid flow and electronics cooling simulations performed on native CAD assemblies produced by today’s leading CAD systems. These demonstrations will take place at the Autodesk booth (5901), the Solid Edge booth (5501) and the SolidWorks Corp. booth (6501).

CFdesign is also integrated with Pro/ENGINEER® and works associatively with native 3D geometry produced in any MCAD system that employs ACIS, Granite, or Parasolid modeling kernels.
