New Service Cuts Time and Cost of CAE
Posted Fri January 31, 2003 @11:53AM

News Enductive Solutions has announced the availability of a new “solutions service” that drastically reduces the time, investment and fixed costs required for companies to take advantage of the latest multidisciplinary Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) technology. The company’s engineers work closely with a customer to understand their design engineering process, then recommend appropriate (CAE) tools that make it possible to improve product performance, and reduce engineering costs by rapidly evaluating software prototypes of their products.

Enductive consultants then develop an interface, specially tailored and tuned to their customer’s specific requirements, that accesses only the required software functionality. This eliminates the need for design engineers to become experts in the full range of available functions for multiple codes. “The latest computer aided engineering tools can help nearly any company make substantial improvements to their product while reducing time to market,” said Phil Raymond, President for Enductive Solutions. “Our new service reduces the time and cost needed to take advantage of these benefits.”

News Multiphase Flows in Industrial Applications Course and Conference
April 28th - 30th 2003
Dresden, Germany

Multiphase flows are of great interest to a large variety of industries. The power generation, food production, chemical process, and automotive industries are all driving forces in this physically and phenomenologically complex field.

A one-day course will be followed by a two-day conference.

The goal of this conference is to bring together experimental and numerical practitioners, and foster the exchange of knowledge between the two sides. Experts from both areas are called upon to present their research and application results to a receptive worldwide audience. Sponsored by CFX Germany and Forschungszentrum Rossendorf e.V.

Abstracts are currently being accepted.

The short course is designed to provide knowledge on the use of numerical and experimental methods for multiphase flows.

Participants will receive an overview of the possibilities and limits of both modern experimental methods and computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Valuable information on the applicability of CFD for daily tasks will be provided.

The lecturers are acknowledged experts in the areas outlined above.

For more information or to register visit the Conference Website.

Application: CFD Used to Troubleshoot Centrifugal Fan Coal Dust Accumulation
Posted Mon January 27, 2003 @02:36PM

Application From the Technology & Innovation Centre,
Larsen & Toubro Limited, Baroda, India

Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T) is one of the leading engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) players in the refinery and power sectors in Asia. The Technology and Innovation Centre of L&T at Baroda has been using CFX TASCflow extensively for flow and combustion applications to evaluate the reliability of in-house-designed equipment as well as critical out-sourced equipment.

The software has played an important role in understanding, designing and troubleshooting of equipment. Recently, CFX-TASCflow was used to troubleshoot a centrifugal fan used in a coal-dust environment. The fan was accumulating dust unevenly on the impeller vanes, causing severe vibration problems and leading to frequent shutdowns. On visual inspection, it was found that dust was collecting near the tip of the fan vanes, which might be due to the sticky nature of the dust and the high curvature of the vanes near the tip.
