News Coupled 1D/3D STAR-CD Training Course
Nuremberg, Germany
September 23, 2002

The CD adapco Group offers all European users the opportunity of understanding of how to set-up and effectively run three dimensional STAR-CD analyses coupled to a one dimensional engine simulation code, GT-POWER.

The course is aimed at giving the STAR-CD user an understanding of how to set-up and effectively run three dimensional STAR-CD analyses coupled to a one dimensional engine simulation code. The course will use GT-POWER as the engine simulation code. For some components, a more stable and realistic STAR-CD analysis is obtained by allowing the unsteady STAR-CD analysis results to interact with (influence) the domain boundary conditions. In addition to instruction, the course will provide the STAR-CD user with hands-on experience through use of a worked example. The course also offers the user the opportunity to interact with an experienced engineer who has run several coupled analyses.

Application The engineers at Spalding know there is more to the game of golf than skill and concentration. For instance, there is a lot of science behind the design of the golf balls. Designing them to fly higher and go farther is a tricky task. Scientists at Spalding Sports Worldwide are now using CFdesign fluid flow simulation software from Blue Ridge Numerics to better determine which new designs will go the distance.

Business: MCAE Industry Consolidation Under Fire?
Posted Fri July 12, 2002 @06:19PM

News In 1999, MSC.Software purchased Universal Analytics Inc. and Computerized Structural Analysis & Research Corp., two competitive sources of NASTRAN software who held only modest market share.

In October 2001, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) challenged the acqusitions on the grounds that they substantially lessened competition and tended to create a monopoly in the relevant markets. The allegations gained end-user support when MSC.Software increased the license fee of its NASTRAN software following the acquisition.

Recently, MSC.Software and the FTC came to an agreement, heading off an administrative hearing scheduled to begin Tuesday in a Washington D.C. federal court.

MCAD Cafe has posted an informative article on the whole event which contains further background.

After following these events, the question becomes, when the CFD software industry inevitably follows the same path of consolidation, will the FTC take issue?
