ELSA Releases New Graphics Cards
Posted Tue March 26, 2002 @02:52PM
Print version Email story Tweet story
Hardware ELSA has released the Synergy4 (entry-level) and Gloria4 (high-end) families of graphics cards.

The Synergy4 boards are based on NVIDIA's Quadro4 550 XGL professional graphics processor. The card features a unified memory architecture that dynamically allocates memory between graphics subsystems such as the frame buffer, texture memory and vertex memory. This second-generation Lightspeed Memory Architecture™ (LMA) II load balances across NVIDIA's patented crossbar memory controller for optimal memory bandwidth usage.

The Gloria4 boards are based on NVIDIA's Quadro4 (700,750, and 900) XGL professional graphics processors. The new graphics accelerators offer a combination of dynamic memory bandwidth management, highly optimized OpenGL® and DirectX® drivers, the industry's most efficient occlusion culling and an architecture that renders an astonishing 60 million lit, shaded and trilinear-textured triangles per second. The ELSA GLoria4 Quadro4 900XGL has reached an undisputed world record with a ProCDRS score of over 100.

Post Processing Visual Solutions, Inc. today announced the successful release of ParaVista version 1.0. This initial offering will provide product engineers with a powerful tool for interactively visualizing and better understanding the performance of their designs.

ParaVista is a state-of-the-art visualization software system that operates on an entire set of parametric analysis data files rather than just a single steady-state solution. For visualizing parametric data, ParaVista replaces the tedious process of paging through several individual plots with the ability to interactively fly through the parametric data space while viewing the results.

ParaVista 1.0 gives engineers doing parametric studies the ability to visualize their design analysis results in a more efficient and comprehensive way than previously possible.

Application: CFD Vital for McLaren F1 team

Application CFD is playing an ever more vital role for the McLaren Formula 1 team. Their biggest CFD model involves the simulation of the airflow over every external aerodynamic surface of the whole car, including the wing mirrors.

The McLaren team utilizes two Sun Technical Compute Farm (Sun TCF) systems for their number-crunching power. With the Sun TCF systems, this can now be completed in just three days, a huge competitive advantage when compared to the several weeks that the analysis required in the past.

The practical advantage of this extra capability was dramatically illustrated last season when the all important front wing was completely re-designed, tested, manufactured and fitted to the car during a two-week interlude between Grand Prix races.

F1 is all about speed, not just speed on the track but also, increasingly, speed of development off the track,

Hardware SGI has announced an agressive migration assistance program for HP users frightened by the HP-Compaq merger.

"The reduced focus on midrange technical computing, evidenced by the proposed HP and Compaq merger and the reported phasing out of the PA-RISC and ALPHA microprocessor lines, has resulted in customers being concerned about the stability of their development environments. SGI is responding to the needs of those users with an easy Migration Assistance Program created to satisfy customers' requirements for a long-term and stable technical computing solution," said Jan Silverman, senior vice president of marketing at SGI.
