CFX Launches New Maritime Competence Centre

News CFX-Germany has teamed with Schiffbau-Versuchanstalt Potsdam GmbH (SVA) to form a "Maritime CFX Competence Centre". Building on a well-established relationship, the partnership is focused on improving understanding of the unsteady flow past a the propeller as it rotates behind the ship.

Previous simulations of the propeller-ship configuration have shown that a true time-dependent rotor-stator interface provides a significantly higher level of accuracy than steady-state simulations using a sliding mixing plane. The unsteady approach also provides pressure fluctation data on the hull and rudder which are a main source for noise and vibration within the ship.

The new work allows ship hulls to be optimized based on not only their drag, but also on the interaction of the propeller and hull. This will allow for designs which can achieve a desired speed at a lower power requirement.

Hanley Launches Complete 3D Wing Design and Analysis

WingAnalysis Plus can be used by manufacturers, engineers, kit plane builders, students and others to design and test 3-D wings. This unique software allows the user to seamlessly combine airfoil shapes and wing planform dimensions to perform a complete 3-D wing analysis. The software can test custom airfoils and has a built-in library of over a thousand airfoil shapes including NACA 4, 5 & 6-digit airfoils, Eppler, GAW and many others suitable for a variety of mission critical tasks.

WingAnalysis Plus 1.1 is an essential design and reference tool for engineers and designers who need a readily available database of airfoils for wings and other aerodynamic surface designs. Kit plane builders can test and compare wings with different airfoil shapes at the roots & tips, aspect ratios, taper ratios and twist. Automotive engineers can use WingAnalysis Plus to compare performance data for automobile spoilers (without ground effect). It is also useful to marine design engineers who need to select and analyze foils for keel, rudders and centerboards.

WingAnalysis Plus 1.1 can be used to compute the lift, drag and moment generated by wings at a specific angles of attack and to estimate their stall angles of attack and maximum lift values. The software can generate lift and drag polar graphs; plot multiple curves to compare wing performance; generate lift versus angle of attack graphs and print out tables of design parameters. WingAnalysis Plus can export airfoils to .DXF files for use in other CAD programs; export airfoil coordinates to ASCII files; and plot airfoils to any dimension using your windows support printer.

FIELDVIEW 8 Released

Post Processing Intelligent Light has released the latest version of their flagship post-processing software. FIELDVIEW 8 includes a number of enhancements including:
  • FVX programming language
  • Surface streamlines
  • Enhanced integration on arbitrary cutting planes
  • Auto-refresh in demoted mode
  • Improvements to parallel and client/server versions
  • Simplified vector creation in the CFD calculator
The FVX programming language is a major new capability which will expand the usefulness of FIELDVIEW in many ways. FVX will let you read datasets, create and manipulate surfaces, and perform complex quantitative post-processing tasks using a real programming language.
