CFD Visualization in the Classroom

Post Processing The U.S. Air Force Academy has licensed EnSight as a visualization tool for its Advanced Applied Aerodynamics course.
EnSight's ability to plot multiple time-dependent phenomena simultaneously allows us to show students how shock formation and location impact such parameters as lift and drag, says Maj. Doug Blake, assistant professor of aeronautics at the Air Force Academy. We are always looking for new ways to teach students. Several faculty members are involved in CFD research at the Academy, and as we obtain results, we try to incorporate them into the classroom.
It's great to see CFD advancing in the classroom.

ICEM Integrates Hexa with CATIA V5

Grid Generation ICEM CFD has announced the integration of their structured block mesher, Hexa, with Dassault Systemes' CATIA V5 design and analysis tool. With the move, ICEM CFD has also signed an agreement to join Dassault Systemes’ “Software Community Program” as a Partner, to develop, market and sell applications based on the V5 architecture, integrated with and complementary to CATIA V5 solutions.

The combination allows engineers to create an advanced hexahedral mesh while maintaining full associativity with the CATIA design and analysis model.

The integration with ‘ICEM CFD Hexa’ will provide CATIA V5 designers and experts with easy-to-use and associative hexahedral meshing for FEA & CFD analysis. This will strongly improve customer product quality and functional performances said Gérard Lecina, Director, CATIA CAE Division.

CFX France Announces CFD Conference and Seminar

ANSYS CFX CFX France will hold a combined conference and seminar in Aix-en-Provence on 14-16 November 2001.

The conference is designed for current CFD users and those interested in learning how CFD can be utilized in their industry. The seminar is entitled "Modelling of Turbulence" and will run in parallel to the conference.

New Fluent Brochures Available

ANSYS FLUENT Fluent has recently created several new industry brochures outlining their comprehensive offerings to the Environmental, Power Generation, Semiconductor, Fan Design, Appliance and Biomedical industries.

Fluent Announces FLUENT and PLASMATOR Bundle

ANSYS FLUENT Fluent has announced that they are bundling their CFD software with plasma simulation software from Kinema Research & Software.

The Kinema package, PLASMATOR, provides a complete chemistry database, including collision cross-sections, attachment, recombination, ionization and dissociation. Extensive reaction sets can include 100 reactions and as many as 50 species.

CFD software from Fluent is then used to model the interaction of neutral flows and the plasma discharge in 3D.

"FLUENT-PLASMATOR gives fast turnaround by providing the right tool for each phase of the simulation, and presents reliable results that have been tested against key reference test cases," says Grald.
