AMD EPYC Processors Deliver Competitive Advantage to Mecedes-AMG Petronas

News AMD and the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One (F1) Team showcased how AMD EPYC processors improved aerodynamics testing capacity, contributing to the Mercedes-AMG Petronas team winning its eighth Constructors’ Championship in the 2021 racing season. By using AMD EPYC processors, the team was able to achieve a 20 percent performance improvement [pdf] for computational fluid dynamics (CFD) workloads that were used to model and test aerodynamic flow of their F1 car.

Price/Performance Analysis of CFD on AWS

News In the article Simcenter STAR-CCM+ price-performance on AWS, AWS engineers have evaluated automotive and aerospace industry relevant cases to determine the performance and costs of the simulations.

The benchmarks spanned mesh sizes between 17 million and 147 million cells which covers the typical range of case sizes by Simcenter STAR-CCM+ customers.

Application: Siemens Gamesa Uses ML Digital Twin for Wind Farm Optimization

Application Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy is working with NVIDIA to create physics-informed digital twins of wind farms — groups of wind turbines used to produce electricity.

The company has thousands of turbines around the globe that light up schools, homes, hospitals and factories with clean energy. In total they generate over 100 gigawatts of wind power, enough to power nearly 87 million households annually.

Announcements Engineering simulation plays an increasing role in industry’s search for competitiveness and technology based innovation at any stage of the design, qualification and certification of their products. Key decisions and product qualification/certification increasingly rely on virtual tests and computational simulations, creating a major paradigm shift in which the objective of physical tests is progressively moving from a demonstration of compliance to a reference for simulation validation.

NAFEMS will conduct the 2.5 day course Verification and Validation in Engineering Simulation on May 10-12.
