Events: Hybrid RANS-LES Methods for Industrial CFD
Posted Fri April 21, 2017 @03:00PM
Print version Email story Tweet story
Announcements ERCOFTAC will host Hybrid RANS-LES Methods for Industrial CFD (VII) Overview, Guidance and Examples on 22-23 May 2017 at the University of Manchester, Manchester, UK

Turbulence is one of the last remaining challenges in the simulation of fluid flows. Although RANS (Reynolds-Averaged Navier Stokes) turbulence models are still very widely used, these approaches are being slowly supplanted by Large Eddy Simulation (LES).

Application: A Scientist and a Supercomputer Re-Create a Tornado
Posted Wed April 12, 2017 @04:21PM
Print version Email story Tweet story
Application With tornado season fast approaching or already underway in vulnerable states throughout the U.S., new supercomputer simulations are giving meteorologists unprecedented insight into the structure of monstrous thunderstorms and tornadoes. One such recent simulation recreates a tornado-producing supercell thunderstorm that left a path of destruction over the central Great Plains in 2011.

The person behind that simulation is Leigh Orf, a scientist with the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) at the University of Wisconsin–Madison.

Events: Advanced Metal Casting Simulation Webinar
Posted Mon April 10, 2017 @04:15PM
Print version Email story Tweet story
Announcements Metal casting simulations are among the most challenging of CFD simulations due to the extreme complexity of flow and physics that occur during fill, solidification and cooling stages of any casting process.

Flow Science invites you to join us for a technical webinar on May 18 that will present a broad review of FLOW-3D Cast's modeling capabilities, including detailed examples taken from many casting applications: LPDC, full HPDC cycles, centrifugal casting, lost foam, sand casting, continuous casting, tilt pour, and gravity pour in permanent molds.
