Application: Performance Optimization of a Centrifugal Pump Stage by the 3D Inverse Design Method

Application Grundfos are one of the world’s leading pump manufacturers for circulators, heating and air-conditioning as well as other centrifugal pumps. They have been a pioneer in utilizing computer aided engineering (CAE) in their design, development and manufacturing process for pumps and motors.

Grundfos have been using an integrated CAE and design system with ANSYS/CFX for structural and fluid flow analysis and TURBOdesign1 for hydrodynamic design.

New Software: CAESES 4.2 with Slider Controls and Kernel Review

News FRIENDSHIP SYSTEMS has released version 4.2 of their geometry modeling and optimization software CAESES.

The new version comes with handy slider controls for design variables and the CAD geometry. The CAD kernel has also been fully reviewed to be even more robust during very difficult geometry operations, especially in automated design processes.

Specialist Engineer in the Hydrotechnical Department at BC Hydro

BC Hydro, a public electric utility in British Columbia, uses FLOW-3D to investigate complex hydraulics issues at several existing dams and to assist in the design and optimization of proposed facilities.

Faizal Yusuf, M.A.Sc., P.Eng., Specialist Engineer in the Hydrotechnical department at BC Hydro, presents three case studies that highlight the application of FLOW-3D to different types of spillways and the importance of reliable prototype or physical hydraulic model data for numerical model calibration.

Dr. Gordon Reece, 1940-2017

News Dr. Gordon Reece, a pioneer in the computational fluid dynamics field, has died at age 76. For him role of the University lecturer was not just about the push to publish and add to the research cannon, rather he was passionate about using his position to improve the lives of others.

Among his accomplishments was early work in developing models for turbulent flow
