Intelligent Light and Georgia Tech Researchers Achieving Breakthrough CFD Scalability

News Intelligent Light, in collaboration with scalable solver developers at Georgia Tech and HPC experts at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, is achieving breakthrough CFD scalability running the AVF-Leslie combustion simulation code on up to 64,000 cores on supercomputers at the Department of Energy’s National Energy Research Scientific Computing Center.

The project is bringing together Intelligent Light’s expertise in computer science, software and hardware architecture, solver integration, data management, and the practical application of CFD to deliver scalable analysis methods and in situ infrastructure for extreme scale knowledge discovery.

Application: CFD Makes Impact in the Textile Business

Application Fluid/Thermal analysts don't usually think about the textile industry when they discuss applications for CFD Software. But Murata Machinery, Ltd, a leading designer and manufacturer of textile machinery in Kyoto, Japan has been using CFD since the 1990s.

Murata uses Cradle SC/Tetra CFD software to help design machines and tooling that use air flow to spin textiles.

Announcements Convergent Science together with Lawrence Livermore National Lab and NVIDIA will feature a webinar on Advancements in High-Fidelity Combustion Kinetics on GPUs on June 04, 2015 from 9:30am to 10:30am US CDT.

LLNL scientist Dr. Russell Whitesides will describe development of a chemistry solver that leverages the computing power of GPUs to bring higher fidelity simulations to the engine R&D cycle. Also, Stan Posey will examine HPC trends with a primer on GPU technology for acceleration of CFD applications.
