New Software: KARALIT Launches Immersed Boundary CFD Software

Italian software vendor KARALIT launches its revolutionary computational fluid dynamic software KARALIT CFD in a free version available to the international industrial and academic community.

KARALIT CFD software offers the Immersed Mesh method allowing users to generate a hyperbolic body fitted grid in the region immediately close to the body surface.

Application: Turning Up the (Green) Power

Until recently, most research in wind energy technology has been focused on macro power generation devices like horizontal axis wind turbines. These massive devices, which are typically more than 100 meters in height and generate at least a megawatt of power, are well-suited for commercial interests in large industrialized regions in the US and Europe.

Panther Racing Demonstrates Simulation Leads to Engineering Success

CD-adapco would like to congratulate the Panther Racing Team and JR Hildebrand on their second place finish in the Greatest Spectacle in Racing - the Indianapolis 500.

Panther Racing uses CD-adapco’s STAR-CCM+ engineering simulation software to optimize the aerodynamic performance and thermal durability of its IndyCar to gain a competitive advantage. Given that Hildebrand was also the fastest rookie in the field - it would appear that the engineers at Panther Racing have capitalized on this advantage.

Application: Dam Break Modelling to Help Flood Planning

CSIRO scientists have developed powerful modelling techniques to help understand the full impact of flooding that occurs when dams collapse.

The research has been helping China’s disaster management authorities better understand the full impact of the catastrophic flooding that would occur if one of China’s, and the world’s, biggest dams collapsed.

New Software: Symscape's Caedium Bursts CFD to the Cloud

In collaboration with Microsoft, Symscape has developed a burst to Windows Azure capability for the next release of Caedium (v3) running on Windows HPC Server 2008 R2 SP1.

The new feature will allow Caedium users to better optimize their designs by performing more CFD simulations unbounded by on-premises hardware limitations thanks to the elastic resource scaling of the cloud-based Azure service.
