New Software: Open Source Code Coupler O-PALM Now Available

In order to efficiently represent complex systems, numerical modelling has to rely on many physical models at a time. The continuity of the solution is granted only if these models can constantly exchange information.

A coupler is a software tool allowing the concurrent execution and the intercommunication of programs not having been especially designed for information exchange.

After many years of development and regular use, the PALM coupler has become Open Source with the name O-PALM.

Business: Autodesk to Acquire Blue Ridge Numerics

Autodesk, Inc., a leader in 3D design, engineering and entertainment software, announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Blue Ridge Numerics, Inc., a leading provider of simulation software, for approximately $39 million in cash. The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions and is expected to close in Autodesk’s first quarter of fiscal 2012 (which ends on April 30, 2011).

Application: CFD Aids Design of High Performance Turbocharger Compressors

Cummins Turbo Technologies, a leading designer and manufacturer of turbochargers for diesel and gas-derivative engines above 2.3 litres, recently applied TURBOdesign1 - 3D inverse design code - for the development of the next-generation of high performance centrifugal compressors for turbocharger applications.

A turbocharged diesel engine’s fuel consumption is directly influenced by the turbocharger efficiency through the engine’s pumping cycle work. The more efficient the turbomachinery, the lower the work done by the engine during the pumping cycle, resulting in better engine Brake Specific Fuel Consumption (BSFC).

Flow Science, Inc. has announced that it will hold its 11th annual FLOW-3D European Users Conference on May 26-27, 2011 at the Hotel Royal Falcone in Monza, Italy.

The conference is open to FLOW-3D users and other persons throughout Europe who are interested in FLOW-3D. The meeting will feature user presentations from a variety of industrial and research applications as well as the latest developments for FLOW-3D presented by Flow Science representatives.
