CD-adapco Vehicle Simulation Resource Center Launched

CD-adapco CD-adapco has announced the launch of their new Vehicle Simulation Resource Center. The center has been established to provide engineers with access to application briefs related to the simulation of: Aerodynamics and Vehicle Thermal Management; In Cylinder Modeling, Powertrain Analysis; Passenger Comfort; Aftertreatment; and Fuel Cells. Additional topics will be added in the coming months.

Application: Embedded CFD Helps Reduce Number of Thermal Prototypes

Application Azonix used FloEFD software from the Mentor Graphics Corporation Mechanical Analysis Division (formerly Flomerics) to reduce the number of thermal prototypes required from up to 12 to 1 on its new Terra embedded computer.

"FloEFD computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software enables design engineers without a fluid analysis background to perform thermal simulation," said James Young, Design Engineer for Azonix. "The result is that we got the design right the first time, only had to make one prototype, and avoided expensive design changes that typically occur in the late stages of the development process."

Application: CFD Analysis Helps Combat Congenital Heart Disease in Children

Congenital heart defects account for five times more deaths annually than all childhood cancers combined. Alison Marsden, an assistant mechanical and aerospace engineering professor at the University of California at San Diego Jacobs School of Engineering, has developed a unique set of computer modeling tools that are expected to enhance pediatric surgeons’ ability to perform heart surgery on children. Marsden’s work focuses on designing and using simulation tools to provide a way of testing new surgery designs on the computer before trying them on patients, much like, for example, engineers use computer codes to test new designs for airplanes or automobiles.
