New Software: POLYFLOW 3.12 Improves Virtual Prototyping

News ANSYS, Inc., a global innovator of simulation software and technologies designed to optimize product development processes, today announced the release of ANSYS® POLYFLOW® 3.12 software for analysis of plastic and rubber processing, glass forming, and food processing.

This new version of ANSYS POLYFLOW technology is faster, more efficient and can handle larger problems than previous releases, since it includes several new solvers and modeling features tailored for specific applications. Newly built-in is the ability to provide data to structural analysis software from ANSYS, which improves the accuracy of virtual prototyping predictions.

Application: EnSight Software Helps Researchers Develop Artificial Sniffer Technology

Application From law enforcement to cancer detection, the uncanny ability of dogs to sniff out the earliest signs of danger and disease is receiving ever-increasing attention by researchers – with good reason.

Despite tremendous advances in law enforcement technology, there is still no man-made tool that can detect the presence of explosives quite like a canine's sophisticated sniffing system. Some experts believe it exceeds the human sense of smell by a factor of at least 10,000 and possibly as much as 100,000. (1) Even in today's high-tech world, trained dogs are still the best bomb detectors.

Research: Researcher Extends Prandtl Boundary Layer Equations to 3D Unsteady Flows

News An MIT researcher may have solved a 100-year-old engineering problem.

In 1904, Ludwig Prandtl derived the exact mathematical conditions for flow separation to occur. But his work had two major restrictions: first, it applied only to steady flows, such as those around a car moving at a constant low speed. Second, it only applied to idealized two-dimensional flows.
